About Darren Cheek

A fully qualified and experienced, MBACP registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist - I offer both short (6-12sessions) and longer-term counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families. With a diverse range of therapeutic experience, I am based just a few minutes from Waterloo Station and I also operate a practice in Withnell, Chorley PR6 8RY.

With an honest and open approach, I provide a confidential, supportive and safe space – where people can discuss and explore their personal issues, their choices, their behaviours, their thoughts, their beliefs and feelings – without fear of judgement, reproach or discrimination.

As an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist my therapeutic approach draws from both the Humanistic and Psychodynamic schools of thought in dealing with issues of change or acceptance. I draw on a number of approaches and styles of counselling to help clients explore and resolve their problems, and to achieve their goals and aspirations. These include Person-centred, Humanistic, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles. People enter into counselling or psychotherapy for many different reasons – each person’s issues are unique, and so my focus is always on the individual and what they bring to the counselling room.

I also offer Skype and telephone sessions. I currently work online and telephone with clients within the UK and in various other countries around the world, including Pakistan and Kenya.

A fluent British Sign Language user, I also work with D/deaf clients - adults, children and young people alike.

My training, work experience and any achievement

Graduated with BA(hons) and have since gone on to to study Counselling Skills (OCR), Counselling Studies (CPCAB Level3), Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB Advanced Level 4 Diploma) and Humanistic Integrative Counselling (CPCAB Advanced Diploma).

For the past 16 years I have worked within the NHS, as a trainer in mental health and communication – working alongside patients, doctors, consultants, psychiatrists and students.

Other previous / current experience includes:
Resident Psychotherapist – TherapyWorks Detox Rehabilitation Centre (Pakistan).
Resident Psychotherapist – G.L.B.T.Q ‘Free2BMe’ Group (Harlow)
Resident Arts / Drama Therapist – GLYPT WMH Project (Woolwich)
Resident Young Persons and Children’s Counsellor – various UK schools.
Counsellor in the voluntary mental health sector.
Lead Tutor – CPCAB Diploma Integrative Therapeutic Counselling.

I also regularly provide Individual, group sessions and mediation work, for businesses, organisations and companies in the UK and abroad.
