About Annie Rimmer
I believe passionately that people can change; even transform their lives. It is a belief based on my own personal experience of psychotherapy and of over twenty years working as a psychotherapist and counsellor with a rich variety of people with many different concerns and difficulties.
It is my belief that when we feel stuck and unable to change things for ourselves, or experience repeating destructive or unhelpful patterns then we often need the help of someone not involved in our lives to help us make changes. This is the work I love.
Psychotherapy is not an easy process to undertake. It demands commitment, courage, willingness to enter into a relationship and build trust, can be painful at times as buried emotions come to the fore, but for all that can be incredibly rewarding as new understanding, experience and release from blocked or suppressed emotions liberates and opens up new possibilities.
If you are interested in what I am saying please do look at my website for more information about the way that I work or you can contact me to arrange an initial meeting so you can tell me what concerns you and ask any questions you might have. Do telephone or e-mail to arrange this or to discuss anything further.
My training, work experience and any achievement
Professional Qualifications
I have an M.Sc in Psychotherapy from Middlesex University, (1997).
I am a Certified Transactional Analyst with Clinical speciality, (Institute of Transactional Analysis,1997).
I gained my Counselling Diploma in Person-centred Counselling in 1992 from the Metanoia Institute.
I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist and abide by their code of ethics.
I draw on many years experience and training in Transactional Analysis,
psychoanalysis, child development, attachment theory and a person centred philosophy.
However, whatever expertise I have, its ultimately a unique and individual journey
we will embark upon together. There has never been a "you and me" working together before and what we learn from that and how we manage that is an important part of the proces.
Areas of Specialism
Although I have worked successfully with many different issues over the last 20 years, for me it is the uniqueness of each person and what they bring to my consulting room that is my abiding interest. I think it is not uncommon for us to understand quite a lot about our difficulties: sometimes to have a good idea of the roots of the problems, and even what we need to do to resolve them, but still find ourselves feeling powerless to change. These stubborn patterns of emotional distress or self defeating behaviour are something I have considerable experience of working with.
