About Liz Veysey MBACP
How I Work
I work with couples and individuals with most issues that people bring. In the first few sessions I really listen and do my best to understand you. I regularly check out with my clients whether or not I have ‘got’ them. As we ‘unpick’ problems together, it is not uncommon for clients to get a different perspective or find the strength to make changes in their lives. All the time it is a process of us both exploring together. This means that I don’t tell you what to do, nor give advice but encourage you to find solutions that you find for yourself. Most of the time this is a process involving just talking, but I sometimes offer other creative ways of working such as empty chair work, modelling, sand-tray and artwork to help get an insight into what is going on. Not everyone wants this of course, and it is important to be true to yourself in how we work together.
Being a person-centred therapist involved me in both theoretical and practical training, including experiencing many hours of personal therapy myself, so I know how difficult it can be for that first meeting with a therapist, and I will do my best to put you at ease. Theoretically, I believe that most life problems originate when we try to force ourselves to ‘be’ and behave in ways that are not true to our real selves, and often the work we do in therapy is rediscovering just who we really are and what it is we really want.
The work we do is carried out in a comfortable, private room at my home, but in a separate building to the house so we are never disturbed. There is plenty of parking away from the road.
Where I work
Trewidland – The counselling room is at my home which is 50 metres down a hard track from the public road. Trewidland is less than 10 minutes drive from Liskeard, and only 15 minutes from Looe.
Skype – Do ask me if you want to arrange counselling by Skype.
About me
With an academic background of a first class honours degree in psychology, and post-graduate research, I spent 15 years teaching Psychology A-level to teenagers and adults, but always felt I wanted to be working more personally with clients on a one-to-one basis so I took the further training to become a counsellor. I have an advanced Diploma in Person Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy and am an Accredited (and registered) member of the British Association of Psychotherapists and Counsellors and adhere to their standards of professional practice and ethics and I am a counselling supervisor. I love the work I do with clients, and am passionate about learning all I can to improve my skills.
What my clients have said about me
"Through counselling, I felt I became a person at last. A person in my own right – and it made a huge difference to have another person listen to my feelings."
"Counselling with Liz had helped me put everything in perspective and that I now feel stronger and happier and able to continue my caring role with a better grace."
"With Liz’s support, encouragement, patience and gentle guidance to find my own answers, I have now recovered my confidence, and self esteem and also developed a self-understanding, which I did not possess before my illness."
