Why Experiences Matter More

There are tons of things that you can spend your money on. Almost every day, there are new lines of clothing and apparel, mobile phones, laptops and gadgets. There are many cool items that are fun to collect, and some fashionable stuff that are really tempting to buy.

And yes. All these material possessions can give us joy. But only for a little time. As the old saying goes – money can’t buy us happiness. While buying a new pair of clothes or a high tech computer can satisfy you, but only momentarily. If you want something that gives you long-term joy and happiness, choose to spend money on creating positive experiences.

Not convinces? Check out the following reasons.

Experiences provide immeasurable happiness.

Your mobile phone is going to be outdated after a few years, and so all your other gadgets. Your branded clothes and bags are going to fade, along with all those things in your closet. And as the days and months pass by, the satisfaction you receive from them is most likely going to diminish. Meanwhile, experiences are priceless. The longer they have been, the more you miss them. The more you become nostalgic of experiencing them again. You will never forget the best places you visited, the feel of the fine powdery sand under your feet, the taste of the exotic food you tried during your Asian tour, and all some folks you met during your travel.

Experiences teach us many lessons.

Experience is the best teacher. Sure, we can learn so many ways to solve a problem in school, but experiences teach us lessons in the most effective way – something we won’t easily forget. Experiences can transform our life. They teach us many values, including how to be humble, virtuous, and compassionate.

Experiences help you find your passion.

Traveling, interacting with different people, and exploring the world around you helps you discover your purpose and passions. Life does not have meaning if it has no purpose. If you are unsure about what you really want in life, it is time that you consider going out and trying out new things. Learn a new craft or a new language, do things you never tried before.

Experiences open your mind to new perspectives.

By experiencing a new culture and a different environment, you open your mind to new perspectives. Positive experiences fuel creativity, which lead to better ideas and ways on dealing with various things. And no, you need not travel abroad to achieve these benefits. Simply taking a road trip for a weekend offers you a new and fresh experience.

Experiences make you more grateful.

Happiness is associated with how you appreciate life. Investing on new positive experiences can be therapeutic. By looking at things around you – the trees, flowers, and all those wonderful natural creations, you will learn how to be more grateful.
