When Other People Spook You Out
Who do you know gets on your nerves? Who at work intimidates you? Who just doesn’t seem to give you the respect you feel they should? Who gives your creeps?
Got someone in mind?
Good.
Now wouldn’t it be great if they changed the way they behave towards you?
Well one of the tools that I teach my clients is how to have greater self-esteem and how to cope with people who intimidate us, either in the family or at work. You cannot change how other people deal with you. But by changing YOUR VIEW of them, you are less likely to be affected by their actions.
As communication is 8 per cent unconscious, they won’t know you have taken this secret step – so it’s okay to do this, for yourself, and it won’t harm them.
The technique:-
Ask yourself – how would you like them to treat you?
Then if they did treat you the way you would like – how would you then be able to be with them?
Before you see them next, imagine these people wearing an ’elf’ costume. Yes an ’elf’ costume!
The sillier the better – you know green skinny tights, big pointed shoes, floppy hat, maybe a big belt and braces. If it helps look up images of elfs and imagine their face on one.
By changing your view of them, they will ’sense’ you are no longer intimated and have to change their response to you.
One client who suffered social phobia, who worked in a factory and felt everyone was talking down to him and criticising him. After doing this exercise, he said those who had taunted him and had made fun of him just left him afterwards alone other women who had a really obnoxious male boss started asking for.
So it works...
Try it and see for yourself.
