What Makes Me an Integrative Therapist?
The basis of this steams from how I view people. I believe that you are all unique, there is nobody on this planet who is exactly the same as you, the way you look, think, behave, has the exact same emotions and or views. It’s because of this belief I work integratively – if you’re a unique individual and no one else is out there who is like you, then how can I choose one theory to suit everyone? I don’t. I find out how you think, what works best for you, which would be the most effective, and then choose the appropriate theory/method in counselling. This I believe would make counselling more effective as I’m using tools and techniques which you can work with. Counselling is about you and as such I ensure I use the correct methods/techniques to help you achieve your goal.
The way I see it is – you’re making a choice to make a change in your life and you want a positive outcome, so counselling is there to help you achieve this. It’s a quick thing or a walk in the park all the time, it can take time but this is the same with anything. In 3 months time you could be on the path to achieving your goal or you could be where you are now. Life is about change, choices and what we do. If you always do the same thing, whether this is how you think or behave, react to things then you will always have the same result. If you want a different result, then something needs to change to make it happen. Counselling can help establish what will work best for you, looking into the benefits and pitfalls, how it may affect you and others around you.
