It’s winter time!

The winter season in UK offers a lot of cultural activities that are really fun and exciting.  However, the cold weather can make you feel down not just emotionally but also physically. Fortunately, there are some ways to warm up your winter and enjoy it like the fun-filled summertime!

Busting Off the Myth: Getting Cold Doesn’t Give You Cold

They say that staying indoors is the best way to fight colds and flu infection during winter season. But according to Professor Peter Collignon, director of Infectious Disease at the Australian National University in Canberra, this oldwives tale is not just wrong. It is also a potential danger to one’s health. He added that when people stay indoors, they just spread the infection. They will also get less vitamin D because they’re not getting sunlight no matter how slight it might be.

Going out in a cold wet weather brings no harm to your body. But of course, if you will expose yourself for long hours outside, expect to suffer from possible cold and flu. Here are some ways to warm up your body and mind this cold season:

1. Move, move, move!

Exercising doesn’t just make you feel warm. It also brightens up your mood. You may want to do some sit-ups in the morning. After dinner, you can take a walk or do some household stuff instead of watching TV. This will keep your belly flat and at the same time, it will stimulate the production of endorphins which will give you a good and happy feeling.

2. Increase your Carb Consumption

Don’t take this tip negatively. During cold weathers, your body needs 30 to 60 grams of carbohydrate per hour to maintain its temperature and give you enough warmth in the cold weather. No matter how dressed and covered you are, your body still needs to work harder to resist the cold temperature. So you don’t gain weight, you must see to it that you engage in physical activities every day.

3. Drink lots of water

If you’re appropriately dressed and you’re doing some strenuous workout, you will sweat a lot. Don’t forget to hydrate your body.

4. Why don’t you have a cup of tea or coffee?

Research shows that coffee is not bad for your health so long as you keep your caffeine intake moderately. Black or green tea is also a perfect beverage during winter. Aside from keeping you warm, tea is a rich source of antioxidants. New study suggests that green tea helps fight flu infections which are most common during winter.

5. Go out and enjoy the snow!

Just like what Professor Collignon said, you need to go out once in a while to get sufficient amount of sunlight. Studies show that people who regularly stay out during winter receive more vitamin D than those who stay indoors.

6. Have fun with family and friends

Why not go out and have some skiing with your family or friends? The winter season must not prevent you from having a good time. Think of fun activities that will make you enjoy this cold season!

7. Meditate.

Yoga is a healthy practice that allows your mind and body to become more active and energetic. There are yoga exercises which include proper breathing and body movements that are designed to keep your body warm.

8. Stay positive!

Nothing makes you feel good than being positive about everything around you. Have an attitude of gratitude and learn how to appreciate things, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. You can keep the fire burning within you by being the best person you can be.

Make this winter season as memorable as it can be. Go out and have fun, eat healthy, exercise, live a positive lifestyle and most of all – ENJOY!
