Want to Be Happier? Start Giving up These Things

March 09, 2015

Is it possible to be happy every day? Fortunately, it is. Happiness is a state of mind. It isn’t just something you experience after achieving your goals. You can be happy for no reason at all. You can feel happy just because you are.

But in order to experience happiness more often, there are certain things you need to give up. They are the negative things that drag you down and give you more sadness, pain and frustrations more than happiness.

Fear of Change

We all have fears. It is an emotional response that is rooted deep within us. Nevertheless, we should not let fear prevent us from exploring the world and discovering new things and experiences. It is normal to feel anxious about trying something different. But the discomfort is only temporary. Once you survived it, you will feel happier and stronger than ever!

Too Much Work

Your long-term goals are probably what’s keeping you busy at work. But happiness is not a goal. It is a state of being. It is not a destination. It is a journey. There’s got to be a balance between your work and personal life. This way, you won’t experience burnout and won’t be overwhelmed with stress.

Jealousy

When you are too focused looking at other people’s successes, you miss the fun of celebrating your personal achievements. Some people think it is right to compare oneself with others. But no. In fact, scientific investigations suggest that doing so can actually lead to unhappiness. You should compete with no one but yourself. Don’t measure your progress by looking at the progress of other people.  You are unique. And therefore, you are incomparable. When you give this habit up, you will be more appreciative of your improvement and achievements.

Complaining

The more you complain, the unhappy you become. Negative events do happen sometimes and you absolutely have no control of them. But you certainly have power over your reactions. By having a positive attitude towards problems, you can focus more on finding better solutions to the issues at hand.

Limiting Beliefs

It’s true that you may not have all it takes to do everything. But that doesn’t mean you are not capable of reaching your goals. Believing that your ability is limited is one of the biggest obstacles to happiness, and one of the biggest hindrances in achieving your goals. By giving your limiting benefits, you open yourself to unlimited possibilities.

Past Hurts

The past is no doubt full of experiences – both good and bad. But too often, we tend to forget the good times and cling to the bad. But it shouldn’t be this way. You shouldn’t look at your past with regrets and sadness. Negative experiences are meant to make you stronger, not make you weaker. It should be a source of wisdom, courage and strength. It should be a source of inspiration to live a happy life that you deserve.

Which among these things do you have and wish to give up? What do you think would be the challenges? We’d love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to post your comment below.
