Top Reasons Why You’re Not Losing Belly Fats

Lisa Franchi March 21, 2017

Have you always dreamed about getting six-pack abs? Have you tried so many types of workout and diet plans but couldn’t get a flatter tummy? Or do you have it for just a few weeks and then it suddenly goes away after one or two days of not working out or indulging in your favourite treats?

Losing belly fat is often a hard task for many of us. And one reason is that we are used to certain habits and practises that turn our belly fat-losing efforts into waste. Below are some of them:

You focus on abs exercise.

It is easy to assume that because it’s your abdomen you are trying to trim and tone, you can just focus on that area alone. They call it ‘spot reduction’. While core workouts are a great addition to your regular exercise regime, it shouldn’t be your main concern. Basically, spot reduction only strengthens the muscle in a particular area in your body, which could be covered by a thick layer of fats still. To flatten your tummy and reduce your weight, opt for moderate to intense aerobic exercises. Once you have achieved a leaner physique, it is much easier to make those beautiful abs come out through core workouts.

You don’t eat meat.

Many people think that meat is a major enemy when it comes to weight loss. And that is probably due to its relatively high fat content. Well, the truth is that fats don’t make us ‘fat’ and unhealthy. Excessive fats do. Apart from fats, meat also contain essential nutrients like protein and iron. But you want to opt for lean meats and limit your consumption to at no more than twice per week.

You engage in ‘crash diets’.

Type ‘best diet plan’ on Google and you’d get over a million results. There are hundreds of diet plans out there which claim to be the ‘best’ in trimming belly fats fast. But too often, they are nothing more than a hype. Some of them could give you great results in a matter of days or weeks, but aren’t sustainable. Worse, some are associated with an increased risk of health problems like nutritional deficiency and digestive disorder. There is no special trick to achieving a beautiful body. It is and always will be – balanced diet and exercise.

You are consuming very low amount of calories.

Calorie restriction is a good strategy to burn those excess fats around your tummy. But extreme calorie reduction may not be good for your health. Plus, it isn’t sustainable too. Too much calorie restriction can also affect your metabolism. So in the long run, it will slow your body’s fat-burning ability. Instead of drastically cutting back on calories, just have enough. The ideal is 2500 calories for men and 2000 for women.

Losing belly fats is like losing other fats around your body. Eating properly and exercising regularly are the key. There’s no shortcut.
