Things You Shouldn’t Forget If You Want to Remain Happy
They say there is no single route to happiness. It’s the journey that matters anyway. Staying happy is more challenging than being happy. While it is true that we are bound to experience happiness and sadness from time to time, people who are truly happy experience a bigger dose of positive emotions than others.
If you want to experience more happiness than sadness, there are a few things you should not forget.
CHOOSE to be happy.
You’ve probably heard it a lot of times already - happiness is a choice. And this is so true. So today, make a conscious decision to choose happiness. Take away that mentality of waiting for something - like an achievement - to be happy. Many people think that they can only be happy once they will be able to achieve this and that, go there, and so on. But we all have to remember that happiness is not a destination. It is a journey.
Be thankful, always.
Many times, we tend to just focus on the big picture and overlook the simple things that are important to our happiness. We forget to acknowledge small victories and accomplishments because we are so engrossed to our big dreams. If you want to stay happy, you should not forget that happiness begins with practising gratefulness. Think about the fact that you have a house to live, a bed to sleep on, warm and comfortable clothes to wear, job to sustain your living, and family and friends to cheer you up. Think about your ability to breathe and feel. These are gifts that we should never take for granted.
Make your environment positive.
You are who your friends are. Are you always gloomy and pessimistic? Look at your social circle. You could be spending more time with people who have similar attitudes. If you want to stay cheerful and positive, then choose to be with people who share the same sentiments and goals. Surround yourself with peers who are optimistic and supportive. Those who will cheer you on and help you improve. If you notice people around you who seem to have that ‘toxic’ personality, you may want to spend less time with them.
Value yourself.
It’s hard to be happy when you don’t value yourself. Some people will try to bring you down. Some will question your beliefs and decisions, and disapprove of your choices. But it’s up to you whether you will let their opinions affect you or not. Remember that you are worthy and special. Only when you acknowledge your worth do happiness begins to blossom from within and flourish.
Cheers to more happiness!
