The Surprising Health Perks of Winter Weather!
The snow may be so nice to look at. But with the temperature reaching 1°C today (feels like - 8°C), many of us can’t help but frown. Not only does the snowy season gives us chill, but it also exposes us to different health problems, including flu, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), viral infections, and so on.
But looking at a ‘warmer’ side, the cold season does have health perks too! So instead of feeling so cold and blue about it, cheer up because you are actually getting the following health benefits!
More time with loved ones
The cold weather may hinder us from engaging in our daily activities but it gives us time to reconnect with friends and relatives even just though phone, a study suggests. During the weather-induced isolation periods, many people take the opportunity to chat with long lost friends and loved ones and bring back the warmth in their social relationships!
More calories burned
Even without riding on your stationary bike or jogging in the park, you can burn lots of calories by simply feeling cold! In a 2012 study, researchers found that cold weather tends to set the ‘brown’ fat in motion which results to more calories burned. Brown fats are a type of fat found in areas of the body that have the ability to burn the ‘white’ fats.
Greater appreciation of ‘sunshine’
According to experts, if it doesn’t get cold, we are less likely to appreciate sunshine. Experiencing the cold weather will get you more and more excited to see the sun! So hold on. As they say, this too, shall pass!
Less Pain
Do you ever wonder why others put ice on their swollen body part after an injury? That’s because cold temperature helps reduce inflammation and soothes pain. The cold weather can give you comfort from pain after a strenuous physical activity. In a 2011 study, researchers found that treatments such as cryotherapy which involved applying very cold temperature are more effective in helping athletes recover from injury than simply resting.
Better Body Image
While waiting for the sun to shine and be able to flaunt your new pair of bikinis, the cold season gives you a great opportunity to focus on improving your body image and looking good! Just stick to healthy food and increase your physical activities, you are surely to develop a lean, sexy body comes summer!
Mosquito-Free Season
Freezing temperatures might actually kill disease-causing bugs such as ticks and mosquitoes. This means you don’t have to be so much worried about them!
Dear Readers,
