In movies, we often see couples sleeping in the same position – woman lying with her head and arm on the man’s chest. Funny, they wake up in the same position without any sign of cramps! Very romantic but not so true in real life, scientists say.
A new British study which involved 2,000 couples reveals that 46% of couples turn away and sleep with their backs to their lovers while one quarter don’t want to be touched by their partners. Majority of the respondents also reported that their sex life improved when they ‘cuddled-up’ more. They can even tell if their partners are cheating on them.
Psychologist Corrine Sweet said sleeping habits can reveal the stresses and strains in a relationship. According to her, people cannot fake their body language when they are asleep – it is the best time when they are most honest and vulnerable.
Check out these sleeping positions and uncover the hidden message of each one:
·Liberty – 28% of British couples sleep back to back but not touching, which indicates that they are connected but independent enough to sleep separately.
·Male spooning – in this position, couples sleep side by side, and curled up with each other in a foetal position. The guy acts as a big spoon on the outside, protecting his woman. Traditional spooning position represents a strong sexuality and sense of security. 13% of couples sleep this way.
· Lovers Knot – here, couples lay face to face, with their legs intertwined. 8% of British couples follow this sleeping position which shows high sense of intimacy. It suggests that lovers wouldn’t want to be separated from each other, even for a moment.
·Pillow Talk – at least 7% of couples may need to spend some time conversing right before sleeping. When they sleep face to face but not touching each other, psychologists suggest couples have a desire to talk in bed.
·Female spooning – here, it is the woman who acts as the big spoon, protecting her man. This is common in 13% of couples.
·The Romantic – this is what we see in movies. Sadly, only 1% of ‘real’ couples do this. This is a position that is common among new or rekindled relationships.
·Superman – here, the man lies on a starfish position and the woman hangs off the bed. This suggests that the man is the king of the bed (he likes to have his way) and his girl is okay with that. 1% of couples follow this position.
·Superwoman – reverse the above position. Here, the woman is the queen of the bed and the guy totally submits on that. Another 1% of couples sleep this way.
·Cherish – 18% of couples are comfortable, relaxed and have a high sense of intimacy. In this position, couples sleep back to back but touching.
