As the days get colder, you might be tempted to leave your exercising gears and hibernate. But if you want to stay cheery, energetic and healthy all through this winter, you have to keep moving. Regular exercise is indispensable, whether it’s summer or winter.

You really don’t have to do high-intensity workouts. There are simple ways to keep your blood flowing properly and stay warm during this wintry weather.

·  Stay hydrated. Just because you’re not sweating much doesn’t mean you no longer have to observe your 8-a-day glasses of water. Dehydration will cause your hands and feet to feel colder as your dry skin struggles to retain heat.

·  Wear warm clothes. Wearing several thin clothes will help give you warmth and comfort as the days draw in and temperature drops. Wear a large overcoat in case of severe cold, and don’t forget to wear socks.

·    Eat on time. You might be too busy with your work that you almost forget to eat your lunch. But skipping meals is likely to make you feel colder. Drink hot beverages like coffee. Hot soup is also advisable.

·   Make sure you get enough iron. Iron is needed by the blood to transport oxygen to all parts of the body. A lack of this important mineral usually leads to poor blood circulation. Foods rich in iron include spinach, chicken liver, beef, and veal.

·   Get yourself a small pair of dumbbells. Dumbbell exercises aren’t vigorous, a fact it makes them a perfect workout option during winter. Try bicep curls for the front of your arms and tricep kickbacks for your back. Even if you’re only moving your arms, dumbbell exercises will surely make you sweat getting that blood flowing to keep you warm.

·    Keep moving. You don’t need expensive workout tools to exercise. The stairs can be very handy. To warm up, step up and down on the bottom step for three minutes. Rest for one minute. Then, step up and down three steps from the bottom. Just 10 minutes of this exercise will greatly improve your blood circulation and strengthen the muscles in your legs. Try to move your arms as you do the routine. You can always extend the time if you wish.

·     Take a warm bath. A warm shower can surely relax your body after a long, stressful day. If you don’t feel getting wet, just soak your feet in warm water. It will also promote blood flow. Use scented soaps and lotion for a more relaxing effect!
