How to Live Your Dream
What makes happy people different from the others? Simple – they know what they want and they love what they do. Being able to pursue your passion is important to achieving happiness. But what if at this moment, it is very impossible to reach your dreams? Can you not be happy?
Of course you can.
It may take weeks, months or years before you finally reach your dreams. But it doesn’t have to mean you should delay happiness until such time. You can choose to be happy in the now whilst chasing your dreams. And it starts by doing a little something every day to make your dreams a reality. For example, if you dream of owning your own pastry business, but right now you don’t have the money, time and skills to do it – instead of feeling bad about what you can’t do, focus on the things you can do. Maybe during your free time you can read books about baking and master such craft! Or, better yet, enrol in a culinary programme. It won’t cost you that much! Enrich yourself with the knowledge you need, and spend your free time making your business plan. Connect with people who can help you create new ideas and establish your network. Just don’t forget that not everyone you share your dreams with will be thrilled for you. Avoid negative thinkers and focus on people who can support you, even if they don’t agree with you.
Furthermore, spend time with people, activities and things that are meaningful to you and refrain from spending time and effort on those that are not adding value to your life or are keeping you away from what you want to be or do.
You also want to identify the stumbling blocks that can be turned in ‘stepping stones’. With every failure comes a room for opportunities. It’s how you look at life. If you will stick to the negative experiences you’ve had, moving forward and reaching your goals will be harder. Having a positive mindset matters a lot. Think that it’s possible. Many people have proven it is. Yes you will find many forms of discouragement along the way but as long as you focus on what you love to do, you’ll eventually succeed.
And lastly, focus on the now. Many people are fond of fantasising about their dreams, loving the Cinderella stories. They like to think that their ultimate dream will happen in an instant – one morning they will wake up with all the things they have asked for in life. This doesn’t happen in real life. We all have to work hard first. Focusing on the present and learning to enjoy the things you do and being grateful for what you have will give you a deeper sense of happiness.
When you do these, it would feel like you are already living you dream. What’s more – you increase the chance of turning your dreams into reality.
