How to Deal with Stress Like Mentally Strong People Do

We all have that friend who never seem to get tired. That person who has ample of energy day and night, takes a couple of extra workload and completes them on time, and still has time for rest and leisure.

But don’t think that some people never get stressed. No one is immune to it. Stress is, sadly, a natural part of life. We encounter stress at home, at work, in school, in the grocery store, at the bank, and anywhere else we go – even when we’re at something nice and beautiful, like a vacation.

But just because we can’t avoid stress doesn’t mean we should allow ourselves to get carried away by it, or let it rule our life. For mentally strong people, stress is a daily battle that they always win over by simply following the following helpful strategies.

1.       Prioritise your health. It is hard to counter the effects of stress when you are physically weak. Mentally strong people invest in health and fitness because they know how important it is to keeping their mental and emotional well-being in good shape. So get enough sleep and rest, exercise, and follow a balanced diet and you will get better at managing your stress levels.

2.       Figure out where your stress is coming from. Mentally strong people can deal with stress more effectively because they know what causes it. What stresses your friend so much may not give you such high level of stress, and vice versa. Everyone is unique. So it is important that you

3.       Know that you always have a choice. While it’s true that you cannot completely avoid stress, you have a choice to not let it overpower you. Mentally strong people acknowledge that everything they do, from the moment they get up from bed to the time they sleep, it is their choice.

4.       Think positively. While you can’t control the things that happen around you, you can control what you think and how you react to each situation. Mentally strong people always see the glass half full. They see more possibilities than failed attempts. They look at challenges as areas for growth and improvement, so they don’t get too stressed when they encounter such things.

5.       Avoid catastrophizing things. Mentally strong people don’t let the small nuisances come their way and stress them out. What many people don’t realise is that majority of the things they are stressed about are things that they could have simply ignored. By letting the small things pass and focusing on the things that you can control, you will feel less stressed than ever!

6.       Opt for healthy coping skills. We all have coping mechanisms for stress. But ask yourself – are your coping habits healthy and safe? Most people depend on food, cigarettes, alcohol and unhealthy things to fight stress. What they don’t realise is that such things only provide temporary relief but greater negative impact on their health in the long run.

7.       Do what you love. By doing things that you are passionate about, you can effectively juggle with your day to day activities and responsibilities without feeling too much fed up and exhausted. Doing what you love improves your mood and lifts your sense of well-being, which in turn, lowers your stress.

8.       Establish boundaries. You can’t ever please anyone. Doing everything for someone, just so to please him or her, is never healthy and will only keep you stressed.

Stress is something we deal it on a daily basis. But by practising these strategies, we can get better at fighting stress and having a happier and more fulfilling life despite the challenges we encounter.
