Dreams: What Are They Trying to Tell You?
Dreams could be more than just dreams. They could be a wakeup call…
Have you dreamt last night? Do you remember all or just a part of it? Dreams are bizarre, unpredictable stories that we do not have control of. Sometimes they are funny, other times terrifying. Sometimes they are pleasurable, often unbelievable. The science of dreaming has still many holes to fill. But according to studies, dreams could tell something about our life, from the present to future events.
Although it isn’t clear yet whether we should perceive dreams like puzzles that convey a message, or just a biological phenomenon that we should just ignore, dreams may tell us something about our personality and who we are as individuals. They can be a source of life changing commitments, or a wakeup call to pursue things that we truly desire.
In 1996, William Domhoff from the University of California reviewed the evidence of trait-like aspects of dreams by gathering data collected from laboratories and journals that individuals have kept for many years. He was surprised to find a link between dreaming and the types of characters, social interactions, and activities of individuals. He described the link as an “amazing consistency”. Despite the major changes in the subjects’ lives, their dream patterns remained consistent.
Have you been dreaming lately about losing a tooth, flying, running to nowhere, walking naked, etc? Dream experts do have explanations for them.
Dreams about Nudity
There are different interpretations for naked dreams but the main factor to defining it is the feeling you had for being naked. If you felt embarrassed in your dream, that could mean you’re trying to hide something, or perhaps, keeping a secret and it’s burdening you. If you are proud of being naked, it shows that you are happy of what you are and you have a free spirit. Nudity may also mean that you have been caught up by something or someone in your life.
Dreams about Teeth
If you lost a tooth or teeth in your dreams, it could mean you feel like losing control or power over your life. Teeth may also represent how people feel about their physical appearance. Falling teeth could mean that you are finding it hard to express yourself or you feel sad about growing old.
Dreams about being chased
Do you often find yourself restless the moment you wake up because you have been running the whole night in your dream? Being chased in dreams could mean that you feel out of control or overwhelmed by a situation in your life. It may also represent something you want to escape from. If someone is trying to attack you in your dreams, experts say it’s not really someone else, but you. It shows that you would choose to run away from the problem rather than face it.
Dreams about falling
Falling usually represents insecurity, helplessness, anxiety and other negative emotions. It could also mean failure. Based on Sigmund Freud’s theory, dreaming about falling may also be an indication of giving into sexual impulse.
Dreams about flying
This symbolises freedom. Maybe there is something in your life that prevents you from moving forward and finally, you are able to free yourself from it. Flying in dreams may mean that you have overcome a challenge.
Dreams about tornado
It represents extreme emotional outbursts, anxiety or stress. Dreaming about anything relating to tornadoes may mean that you are so overwhelmed about the current events in your life.
Dreams are perhaps the most mysterious human abilities. Nonetheless, we should be thankful of them because even if dreams come as we sleep, they wake us up to certain realisations and give us a clue of what is happening in our life that we should give more attention to. If you have been dreaming lately of something, you may consult a therapist who could explain what your dreams mean. For sure, they are telling you something very, very important.
