We all go through the tough times. They are inevitable. However, we can always control our mind and reaction to difficult situations. Here are three simple yet powerful steps that you can take to become a more resilient person.
Accept what you cannot change.
Recovering from life’s difficulties begin with accepting that life isn’t perfect and there are things that you can’t just change. It may be hard but it’s the first step towards healing. You may need some time to accept the situation, such as loss of a loved one, and that is perfectly okay. It is crucial to understand that some things in life are beyond your control and that there are things you don’t have power over. In those case you just have to choose to let go and accept it. It can be challenging. But it can give you peace of mind.
Acknowledge how you feel.
Do not try to supress your emotions. Acknowledging and accepting how you feel at the moment is important in developing the so-called ‘emotional intelligence’. Whenever you touch base with your emotions, try to understand why you are experiencing it and differentiate. Be able to specify what it is you are feeling. It is really important to determine the root of your emotions so you gain more insight to the issues that you are dealing with.
Love yourself more.
It is hard to succeed from life’s difficulties when you don’t take care of yourself. Nurture yourself. Never forget to rest and take a break from time to time. You are not a robot. You definitely need time to recharge your batteries and regain your senses. Spend time on the things you enjoy doing. Prioritise having a good night sleep. Spare time for exercise. And eat right. Make friends. Meet new people. Travel. Explore your creative side and invest on developing new talents. When you are feeling good within, it is easier to tackle life’s difficulties. You will also develop a better perspective on things and life will become less stressful.
You don’t have to do all these at once. You can take one step at a time. You will soon realise that you have become more resilient - ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead.
