A Mindful Approach To Loving Your Valentine
Tomorrow, 14th of February, restaurants, parks and shopping centres will be full of ‘lovely’ surprises. Fragrant flowers will embellish kitchen tables, bedside tables and maybe even your office desk. Hotels will run out of available rooms, many will be wearing their hot red dresses, theatres will have their movie tickets sold quickly, the streets will be busy with vendors selling gifting items, cards and bouquets, and surely – there will be tons of chocolates. Oh yes! Chocolates! If that isn’t love I don’t know what is.
While most people anticipate Valentine’s Day as a celebration of love, for some, it’s going to be but an ordinary day. There are couples who are hesitant to put extra effort on making this occasion more romantic and memorable. For them, Valentine’s Day is just a waste of time and money. Why celebrate love on one day when you can celebrate it all year round?
Come on! Don’t be sceptic! The Heart’s Day only happens once a year so why not put some effort making this day one-of-a-kind? Valentine’s Day can be there to give you the confidence and spirit to pursue your inner most desires which could ignite into a beautiful future. To make this celebration perfect and unforgettable, there are some important things you should possibly keep in mind.
Romantic Surprises
Valentine’s Day is incomplete without treats and gifts. But don’t ask your partner what she wants for Valentine’s. As much as possible, you want to surprise her! If you’re unsure about what to give, think of something that you and your spouse want and combine them into a gifting idea. For instance, you want to watch a live sporting event but your partner wants to have massage at the spa. No matter how conflicting your interests are, you just have to come up with a compromise. So after the sport, go ahead to the spa!
You may also want to plan an activity you have never tried before. Maybe you can arrange a romantic getaway (this may take days of planning though). Don’t have much budget? It’s okay! You can simply cook her favourite dish and set up the table like romantic restaurants do! Giving someone a gift isn’t about money or objects, it’s the thought and meaning behind the gesture. That is where the romance lies. Giving is also great for your health and mind so it won’t just make him/her happy but you as well.
Love and Romance
Above all, make this romantic day a day for the whole family. If you have kids, maybe you can arrange a simple indoor or outdoor activity where all of you can enjoy. Valentine’s Day is not purely about lovemaking or romanticising. It is also the day when we share memories and happiness with the people we care about the most. It doesn’t just have to be about dinner and sex, it can be a time to remember our feelings toward the people we care about, prompting us to do so more through-out the year and it can only be better for our health if at first it isn’t for our wallets and purses.
