What if the ‘beauty secret’ you have been searching for has been sitting there all this time on your kitchen counter? Nature has given us almost anything we could possibly need. Aside from nourishing our body from within, the following natural beauty treatments will make sure you also glow from the outside!
Avocado
Avocado is considered one of the healthiest fruits on earth. Although it’s a little high in calories, it contains high levels of good fats, particularly monounsaturated fats that have many health benefits. Avocado is a restorative fruit which is great for protecting and balancing your hair and skin. It has vitamin B which promotes the production of your skin’s natural oil, keeping your skin hydrated, supple and glowing, and adds sheen to your hair. It also has vitamin E that helps protect and repair damages caused by sun exposure and pollution. Aside from snacking on it, you can apply freshly mashed avocado combined with 1 tablespoon honey and mayonnaise on your face, body and hair. Let it stay for 15 minutes and then rinse.
Whole grains
Whole grains are not just good for your tummy but for your skin and overall appearance too. Oatmeal and quinoa seeds for instance, are high in nutrients that are essential in promoting healthy skin. Prepare half a cup of oatmeal or quinoa seeds cooked or steamed with water and let it cool. Apply generously on your skin and scalp and leave it on for at least 15 minutes and then rinse.
Cucumber
Do you know why people place round slices of cucumber on their eyes? That’s because this fruit contains silica, an antioxidant that helps relieve dark circles and puffy eyes. It also supports cell growth and repair of skin cells. You can also puree cucumber to achieve a clear cream to be used as a scalp treatment.
Banana plus cocoa
Banana fudge is delicious as it is but you can also apply it on your body, face and scalp to reap its anti-ageing benefits! Bananas and cocoa are rich in sulphur, a mineral that promotes healthy skin, hair and nails. What’s more, they also provide UV protection.
Papaya
This tropical fruit is a great natural exfoliant and toner – no wonder why it is a common ingredient in many facial creams, body lotions and beauty treatments. Papaya contains high levels of vitamin C and E that will restore the glow of your hair and skin. Toss papaya, a teaspoon of fresh lime juice, a teaspoon of fresh orange juice and 2 tablespoons of warmed raw honey in a food processor. Apply the mixture on your face, neck and hair and let it stay for 10 minutes. Rinse as usual.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil offers great benefits to your hair and skin. Unrefined coconut oil is an all-purpose moisturiser great for all skin hairs and types. Mix ½ cup of pureed organic carrot, 5 drops of chamomile oil, 5 drops of jasmine oil, 10 drops of geranium oil and a pinch of rosemary, sage or finely ground sea salt.
