5 Reasons to Love Being Single
Sure, it’s nice to have someone to share your life with. Someone to cuddle with, laugh with, and be with every single day. But if you are single, you don’t have to feel bad. Neither you have to berate yourself and think that you don’t deserve to be loved. Being single does have benefits too. Real, great benefits! They include the following:
It’s easy to manage your weight.
A survey by UK researchers noticed sudden weight gains in couples who were comfortable with their relationship. Findings show that 62 per cent of respondents admitted to gaining around 14 lbs. after finding their significant others. Some answers to survey questions adequately explain just what’s causing this weight gain among content partners. 30 per cent of couples reported staying in and watching television as their main activity together. Another 20 per cent marked eating out at restaurants as the couple’s bonding activity.
You become more self-reliant.
Have you ever gone through a breakup wherein you find yourself unable to live life like you used to? Like you can’t function at work, go out, meet other people, or do the ordinary things you do because you feel like you can’t do them without your partner? Being single teaches you a lot about self-reliance and being independent. You don’t find someone to complete you. When you enter a relationship, you must be a whole person who is capable of living and being happy without having to depend to someone.
Your social life is better.
Single people tend to be more social than those who are in relationships. A study conducted by Cornell sociologist Erin Cornwell, found that people over the age of 35 who lived with a spouse or partner were less likely to spend an evening socialising with friends than those who didn’t. Having a strong social relationship is central to your health and well-being.
You get more of your “me time”.
Schedule time to be alone (yes, just you) has been found to improve mental health. Being alone helps a lot in making decisions, reflecting on things, and recharging your batteries. It is good for creativity too.
You’re more likely to get a good night’s sleep.
A US survey found that one in four Americans in a relationship would rather sleep alone. Yes, you know the reasons. No waking up to loud snores, sheet-stealing, sleep-walking or late night-snacking.
Many singles do everything to find love, from getting set up by a matchmaker to signing up for online dating sites. We all want to find someone to be with and share the rest of our life with. But you really don’t have to feel bad if until now you’re still in your quest for true love. As they say, love comes to those who wait. And while you do, remind yourself of the great benefits of being single. Being happy right now – in this very moment of your life is all that matters after all.
