5 Gifts to Give Yourself this Christmas
The holiday season is all about giving thanks and sharing our blessings to others. Christmas and Boxing Day are two of the merriest times of the year because we get the chance to gather with our families and friends, enjoy good food together, and make another life-treasuring memories. It is also a great opportunity to show them how thankful we are that they are part of our life, through gift giving.
You probably have brought a few items already for some of your closest friends and your family. And the list is not yet finished. Yes, December holidays are really worth celebrating! They are something we really look forward to!
But aside from giving gifts to other people, we should also give gifts to ourselves. We aren’t talking about a new phone or gadget, a few new pair of clothes, or a holiday getaway. There are gifts that are more pleasing to these. Unlike material things, these gifts are something we can treasure for years, even throughout our lifetime.
The Gift of Health
The gift of health is one of the best things you can give to yourself. And you can do it by taking care of your body. Make a promise to yourself that you are going to eat healthy, move more, and rest. You can’t ever enjoy life when you are sick and frail. So if there’s one thing you want to give more attention now, it should be your health.
The Gift of Wisdom
Wisdom is a gift you will treasure for the rest of your life. Buy a new book, enrol in an online programme, learn a new skill, try a new sport, explore your passion, master a new language, converse with brilliant people, and travel to new places to experience different things. The wiser you get, the better person you become.
The Gift of Solitude
The holiday season marks a time of endless festivities. You probably have several parties to attend to this coming weeks. But no matter how busy you could get, make an effort to find peace and solitude in your daily life. Find a place to go where you will not be around other people and turn your phone off or leave it behind for at least one hour, with no TV or radio to distract you. Embrace silence. Embrace solitude. Be mindful. It really is soul-refreshing.
The Gift of Gratitude
When you have it, life becomes extra special, more wonderful and totally worth-living. When you have gratitude, every little gift you receive is a big blessing to celebrate. The holiday season is the best time to begin to be more grateful and appreciative of the things around you.
The Gift of Relationship.
If you spend your time and energy on wrong relationships, or on too many activities that force you to neglect your good relationships, you can end up in a tedious cycle of fleeting friendships, superficial romances, and a worse, sense of hopelessness.
Now, your turn. Which among these things are you struggling with? What gifts do you need to start giving yourself? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
