15 Things Successful People Do On Weekends

Sharon Moore June 07, 2013

Weekend is the perhaps the best time for most people to chill, relax and recharge their batteries after a long and tiring work week. For some, weekend means hanging out with friends, partying, and bar hopping. For others, it means a romantic date. And for many, it means general cleaning, laundry, and grocery shopping. But what does weekend means for successful people?

Family Time

Successful entrepreneurs, executives, and the like rarely have time during weekdays to bond with their families. So weekend is usually spent with their loved ones. Whether it’s at their own home or somewhere else, the most important thing is they are with the most important people in their life.

Technology Isolation

Weekdays are mostly spent checking emails and taking urgent calls. The most successful people try to avoid, as much as possible, going online and opening their electronic inboxes. It really makes a great difference, even for just a few minutes or an hour, to take a walk without carrying your phone and responding to emails.

Volunteering Works

A lot of successful people participate in fundraising events to meet new people and make connections. But aside from that, reaching out to the needy also keeps them inspired. Mounting scientific research also suggests that being helpful and compassionate are essential to being happy.

Reflection

Weekends are a great time for many successful people to reflect on their accomplishments and appreciate what they have.

Planning

After reflecting on their current status, successful people also take time during weekends to make future plans. Weekdays are fully loaded with to-do stuff that needs much time and attention so there’s rarely enough time to do a prospective plan about their career or business. Successful people also plan ahead for the things they need to do on the coming week to be more effective and productive.

“NO” to House Chore

Cleaning is probably the most sensible thing to do on a weekend especially for busy professionals who spend more than eight hours in the office every workday. Successful people also give time for the housework. But they don’t overdo it. Thirty minutes is probably enough to take away the mess. Cleaning is best done during weekdays so weekends are spent with less exhausting activities.

Gardening

Digging in and getting dirty is one way to promote creativity whilst having fun. Many people find joy in beautifying their gardens. Not into landscaping? Some other recreational activities to engage in are cooking, making handmade crafts, playing sports, painting, etc.

Meditation

Work can be very exhausting. But there are activities that can help the mind and body recover from the stress brought by work and other obligations. Successful people appreciate the value of meditation. Just 15 to 30 minutes of this relaxing and healthy mental exercise is enough to blow away the exhaustion, worries, and anxiety that one may have incurred during the long work week.

Socialisation

Weekend also means socialisation. Humans are social beings who are in a constant pursuit for acceptance and sense of belongingness. A Saturday afternoon may be spent with friends, relatives, or by getting involved in community activities.

Networking

Meeting new people is important in establishing connections. Networking, for many successful individuals, is not an event or a task, rather, a lifestyle.

Holiday

Taking a holiday during busy seasons (although there’s no work) can be very stressful and expensive.   This is why regular weekends are among the best times to schedule out-of-town travels. Going away from home for even just a day or two may provide relief from the stressful week at work.

Exercise

Successful people consider weekends as time for themselves. Saturdays and Sundays don’t always have to be about self-pampering. They should also be a time for health. Busy professionals who missed their workout sessions during work week catch up during rest days. Exercise promotes better cognitive function, which is necessary in making important decisions.

Time for Passion

Weekends provide a great opportunity to do things you love but could not do because of work. You may be passionate about sketching, baking, dancing, writing, etc. Successful people always find time for both fun and important activities. That’s what we call ‘life balance’.

Sports

If you spent the entire work week travelling, you probably want to spend the weekend lying on your bed or on the couch. But doing nothing can just aggravate your stress levels. You may want to go out and play outdoor games with your kids. Not in the mood for hardcore activities? Maybe you can pamper yourself with a soothing massage at the spa.

Rest

Most kinds of work require an alert mind to produce quality output. Successful people find time to rest and recharge their batteries especially on weekends so they will have the energy needed to get more work done for the coming weekdays.

You only have most probably two days per week to take time off from your work. So why not make the most out of it? After all, you deserve it!
