10 Steps to Create Your Ideal Life

Whilst it is important that we pay attention to the present, we also have to give time to think and plan for the future. Each one of us has dreams in life. The sad thing is – not all had the opportunity to make them a reality. It’s not because some dreams are impossible. It’s just that only a few are willing to take risks and pursue their ideal life.

Before you continue reading, take some time to think about your ultimate goals. What is your ideal life? How do you envision your future? Where do you want to be? So we can align our actions to achieving our future goals, we should be certain of what they are. It’s like cooking. When you know what ingredients you need, the procedures to take, and the cooking time, you can be confident that you are going to make a good dish. Otherwise, you can just hope and pray that it will come out good.

Now that you have envisioned your ideal life, consider the following steps to find your way to it.

Remember, you are better than you think. Many of us are fond of ‘labelling’ themselves. That is, they set their boundaries to what they think they can and cannot be. But this trait prevents you from uncovering your true potential. It discourages you from taking risks and discovering new skills. You wouldn’t know how good you are at certain tasks or crafts unless you give them a try. Create a bigger, better version of yourself. Believe that you still have a lot of skills and talents waiting to be uncovered.

Be clear about your goals. When planning about your future goals, be as clear and specific as possible, as if you are writing your ‘to-do’ list for the day. Write down ten of your most important aspirations and encircle the ones you want to achieve this year or the next few years. When you know what you really want in life, you can develop suitable strategies to achieve them.

Plan ahead and strategise. You also want to be as detailed as possible on how you are going to materialise your dreams. If your vision is to put up a business before the year ends, then you should think about what kind of business to pursue, or if you already figured out what is it, how you can raise money to fund your endeavour, and how you can sell your product or service. But you have to be realistic about your timeline. Don’t rush things and consider other factors that could work against you.

Take the first step. You don’t want your plans to rest on a piece of paper for the rest of your life. You know you are getting closer to your goals the moment you start taking actions. No matter how small that step you took, it does have a huge impact on the outcome of your dreams.

Envision your goals along the way. Once you start taking actions, you may realise that it’s not as simple as it is. You may need to change strategies, adjust your timeline and take a different route, depending on the circumstances. It’s okay. Just keep your eye on your goals. Know that it’s all worth the hardships. Don’t allow yourself to be swayed by distractions and any forms of discouragement.

Learn the lesson from every setback. You may experience numerous setbacks on your way to your ideal life. But these things don’t happen just because they do. Each problem has a meaning – a hidden message that you need to find out. Learn from your failures instead of taking them negatively. Remind yourself that everything happens for a reason.

Be grateful for your milestones. It’s possible that your ideal life won’t happen yet in the next few years. But it doesn’t mean you haven’t experienced any positive changes at all. Compare where you were five years ago and you might be surprised to see how great life has been. Furthermore, whilst your mindset is fixed on your ultimate goals, don’t forget to celebrate small achievements. No matter how small they are, these achievements can strengthen your motivation to reach your major goals. Reward yourself for your hard work and dedication. You deserve it.

Learn to regulate your emotions. In order to stay focused on your ideal life, you want to be in good control of your emotions. Why? It’s because too often, our vision fogs up when emotions are involved. And when that happens, you might lose track of the right direction. You could end up stuck, clueless, ungrateful, and highly discouraged to bounce back from failure and try again. When you are able to regulate your emotions, you will be able to move forward amidst difficulties and challenges that come along your way.

Don’t hesitate to ask for help. There are things you may not accomplish on your own. In that case, go and seek help from your friends, family or people you believe can help you.

NEVER say die. And lastly, never ever give up. “The road may be near, though it seems afar” so goes a line from a popular poem. Simply having a vision is not enough. It will be useless if you don’t act on it. There will be a lot of hindrances along the way. But you have to remember that you are MORE than what you think. You are capable of achieving incredible things and enjoying the life you have always dreamed of.

Whilst there are things you can’t control in life, there are things you can. Hope these steps guide you towards a happier, more fulfilling future.
