10 Essential Oils and What They Do for Your Health
Essential oils have always been a part of a natural beauty routine. Many of us count on these oils for their fragrance and skincare benefits. But they do can do a lot more than just smell good. The following are some of the most popular essential oils which have been credited for years because of their healing benefits.
Peppermint
We all love peppermint for its refreshing smell. But aside from giving us a fresher breath, peppermint is also used to soothe nausea and other stomach issues, cool overworked muscles, and help stop itching. It can also be used to relieve congestion – simply add a few drops of peppermint oil in a bowl of hot water and breathe in the steam. Peppermint is also believed to boost concentration, so it’s a good substitute for coffee.
Sesame
Sesame oil is best known for its moisturising qualities, which makes it a common ingredient in many beauty products, particularly for the skin and hair. It also has a slight SPF factor which contains fatty acids believed to lower stress and blood pressure. Sesame seeds contain the lignans sesamin, sesamolin and sesamol – compounds which have been shown to have anti-cancer properties.
Geranium
Geranium oil is best known for its astringent properties that promote skin health. It is also used to treat acne, and oily skin, boost circulation, and decrease bloating. This oil may help reduce scars and blemishes, get rid of body odour, and contract blood vessels to diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Clove
Spicy clove oil is the main ingredient in many pain relievers and rubs. But this oil has other uses too. It is a good natural remedy against toothache, earaches, digestion problems, nasal congestion, stomach-aches, and headaches. It may also help reduce stress.
Lavender
Lavender is your “go-to” oil for almost any situation. This oil has antibacterial properties that help you fight germs and like peppermint, it’s often credited with aiding digestion and helping fight headaches. It may also help calm the nervous system, improve sleep quality, combat joint pain, and fight everything from urinary disorders and respiratory problems to high blood pressure and acne.

Essential oil from rose is widely used in aromatherapies. There’s another reason why rose is a feminine symbol. Studies show that it is effective in improving hormone balance, treating PMS and menopause, counteracting problems in the bedroom, and improving the look and health of your skin.
Black Pepper
Considered as one of the most valuable spices, black pepper oil is known for its healing properties, which include aiding digestion, undoing cramps and convulsions, warming muscles to ease joint pain and arthritis, and curing bacterial infections.
Rosemary
Oil from rosemary may help relieve headaches, boost memory, alleviate stress, and stimulate circulation in the scalp to treat dandruff and other scalp-related conditions. It also has rejuvenating effects, making it a great natural remedy for stress.
Tea Tree
Tea tree oil is widely used to fight infections and boost the immune system. Tea tree oil’s healing benefits are immense and can be used to treat skin conditions, cuts and burns, dandruff, athlete’s foot, and blemishes among many others. It can also boost scalp health.
